DP World to test Nissan Pathfinder hybrid at Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port

Dubai-based port operator DP World has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nissan to test the Pathfinder hybrid at the Jebel Ali Port in Dubai.

The agreement will see the Japanese automaker supply two Nissan Pathfinder hybrids to be put to the test to prove the vehicle’s fuel economy and low-emission credentials, Nissan said in a statement.

“We look forward to seeing how much the Nissan Pathfinder will help us reduce our environmental impact and the potential savings it will bring to our drivers who will require less fuel on a daily basis,” said Mohammed Al Muallem, senior vice president and managing director of DP World in the UAE Region.

DP World’s fleet of vehicles at Jebel Ali Port is used to transport staff between the three terminals. Under the agreement, the port operator will test the Pathfinders to track fuel savings and carbon footprint reduction with hybrid vehicles.

The Pathfinder hybrid has a 74L fuel tank, the same as conventional models, and offers a range of 785 km on a single tank with fuel consumption of 9.1 L/100km. Also available a in four-wheel drive version, the SUV has a supercharged 2.5L gasoline engine and an electric motor paired to a compact Lithium-ion battery. The battery fits under the third row seat so there is no reduction in space for passengers and luggage.

“Following the launch of our Pathfinder Hybrid, we are pleased to be able to partner with DP World to showcase the SUV’s environmental credentials and put its fuel-efficient powertrain to the test,” Samir Cherfan, managing director of Nissan Middle East

“We are confident that it will yield impressive results and look forward to communicating the benefits of the hybrid test with DP World.”
